Addison Gets Glasses

Not too long ago, I began to notice that Addison was rubbing his eyes. While all children rub eyes when they are tired, he was doing it in a more dramatic way, rubbing his eye up and down his entire shirt arm, and doing it at all different times of the day, especially in the morning and when he cried, not just when he was tired.

I thought he might have dry eyes and took both boys for their first eye exam. Turns out, Addison was in need of glasses. His left eye is far-sighted (with a prescription of -2.25) and his right eye is slightly near-sighted (script of +.25). The doctor said we risk the development of a lazy eye without glasses, as Addison wasn't really using his left eye to see, but relying mostly on his right eye to do the work and make muscle movements.

There's a chance that his vision could get better and we're really hoping in the next 6-12 months it will so he doesn't have to be burdened with glasses or contacts at such a young age forever, but we're happy to have caught it and provided the assistance he needs.

So far, he's taking very well to the glasses (we bought 2 pair and are prepared to lose the first set any minute!) and are teaching him how to treat the glasses and when it's ok to take them off - pretty hard stuff for a 4-year-old!

Everett's vision is 20/25.

sMy first pictures in glasses.
