"I hope that Addison is feeling better. I wanted to make sure that you received the photos from the surgery. I sent it in an email.
I also wanted to give you the pathology results.
It came back as a thymic cyst and does not need any other further treatment. We will watch it but no chemotherapy is needed. It is also good that we resected it."
A thymic cyst was the LEAST likely diagnosis that we could have received, but it also was the BEST option of those that were given.
No one knows why thymic cysts develop, especially ones that are not congenital and are acquired instead. They also aren't sure why they grow rapidly, like Addison's, though one thought is due to chronic inflammation. It could have been that Addison had the cyst for some time, but it became inflamed when he had his throat infection in February last year and grew rapidly.
More important than anything else, it is out, it is gone and he is healthy.

We are all so thankful and relieved that Addy's surgery was so successful. It was a very stressful time for everyone, but Addy was so brave and did so well. You were just amazing Addy and we are all so proud of you!
